Typically, menu orders in restaurants and cafés are associated with food being brought to the table when it's ready. This obviously requires a waiter or runner to deliver the food.
In these times, where hotels and restaurants are struggling with significant challenges due to staff shortages, they are eager to shift to self-service. What few still know is that it's possible to have QR ordering at the tables, while also offering self-service where the guest picks up the food themselves.
This has several advantages, as the restaurant saves on staff or can be flexible by offering self-service during busy periods. The goal is to ensure satisfied guests who receive their food when it’s ready, hot, and fresh. Therefore, it makes sense, during busy periods, to transition to self-service.
The TableCall system from Discover Systems is a new and innovative system. It allows restaurants to have both QR code ordering and self-service.
When the food is ready in the kitchen, the chef or other serving staff can send a signal to the pager on the table, letting guests know their food is ready for pickup.
The system, of course, needs to integrate with the POS system and the restaurant’s KDS (kitchen display system) if one is in place, but it can also work analogously with a call center placed in the kitchen.
If the restaurant’s POS system does not have integration, we can, in collaboration with the cash register supplier, make this integration, which we are happy to assist with.
So QR codes on restaurant tables with self-ordering can now also be turned into self-service using Discover Systems’ TableCall System. The system consists of a specially programmed pager displayed on each table. The pager number corresponds to the table number. When the guest orders their food via the QR code, the order is sent to the kitchen as usual, either to a kitchen printer or kitchen display. At the same time, the guest is notified in their order/app that their food is ready when the pager on the table beeps and flashes, and they can pick it up at the counter or wherever the food is being served.
